WOLF CREEK AND CANON, WYOMING The State of Wyoming is, generally speaking, a plateau of an average height of 5.000 feet, from which several chains of the Rocky Mountains rise. These culminate in the Wind River Range, the highest peak of which, Mt. Fremont, is nearly 10,000 feet above sea level. The other ranges are the Shoshone Mountains, the Big Horn Mountains, and the Larimie Range. The valleys between these ranges, running in all directions, have a very fertile soil, stored up during centuries, and although the average summer temperature in these high regions is rather low, nevertheless, irrigation is working wonders. Wheat, oats, rye and potatoes thrive wonderfully, but above all, cattle ranges. There is a fodder grass here which cures itself, and stands in the snow all winter, eagerly sought by the cattle. Small streams and creeks abound, a large number of rivers take their origin here. Places like the one shown in our picture are to be found by the hundred, and the northwest corner of the state forms the famous wonderland of the Yellowstone National Park.
